Camp Wingra Staff

Debi Leeper (Camp Director)

Two years ago I retired from teaching 4th grade at Glenn Stephens School, and I love coordinating camps and working with the counselors.  I enjoy using my teaching background to develop curriculum and to assist the staff to be the best counselors ever! Living on Wingra Park allows me to be at the boathouse a lot.  I also coordinate Science Thursdays that are free and children of all ages are invited to attend.  Welcome to another great summer!

Tyler Leeper (Madison Boats Owner)

I have played on Lake Wingra since I was the age of most of the campers; fishing and jumping out of boats. I am responsible for both Wingra, Brittingham and Marshall Boats and I am happy that Camp Wingra offers the experiences and memories that I cherish.  I have a young son that I hope grows up to love the boat houses as much as I do.

Summer Jarosky (Wingra Boats Manager)

I grew up on Lake Wingra, jumping off paddle boats and learning to paddle board. I moved back to Madison, after coordinating REI’s Outdoor Program in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut because Wingra Boats has always been “home.” My son Justice, is almost a year old, and I’m looking forward to his first summer on Lake Wingra. You may hear from me from time to time, as I help with camp registration.

Stephan Reinke (Brittingham Boats Manager)

I have had the pleasure of being one of Camp Wingra’s awesome counselors, and also was part of our first afterschool program! Now I manage Brittingham Boats and have since it opened in 2013. My son, Toby, is a regular in both the fishing and paddle camps.  He knows the fishing holes and all the best paddle routes; I hope you meet Toby at camp.

Dean Leeper (Marshall Boats Manager)

I  just returned to Madison after spending the last 3 years getting my MFA in art at Univ. of Montana in Missoula. I am excited to be back in Madison and being on the water is something I love.  In the past I worked at Wingra Boats as a Crew  and as a camp counselor.  I like doing tricks on SUP boards and enjoy racing. I also am getting married this summer!

Jeff Freeman (Madison Boats Admin)

After a long career at American Girl playing with dolls, Jeff joined Madison Boats in 2018 to help out in the office.  Jeff lives in Waunakee along with his wife, DeDe.  Jeff & DeDe have two children, Erin & Riley.  Erin worked at the Wingra Boathouse for several years in high school and college.

"Large Mouth" Luke

My real name is Luke (often called Large Mouth Luke) and for the eighth year I will be one of the fishing counselors at Camp Wingra. I just finished my 3rd year teaching choir/music at East High School and I love teaching everything from singing to fishing. I am incredibly passionate about fostering a love for the outdoors and hope to pass on my love for fishing to your child. I am so lucky to be able to spend my summer doing this awesome work! I couldn't be happier to be back at Camp Wingra. On a side note, I’m getting married on July 27th. Wish me luck!

Kelly

Hey Campers!  I am a World History and English teacher at Belleville High School and this is my 2nd year as a Camp Wingra counselor.   I am SO excited to explore my favorite city with you while on the water this summer! I fell in love with our state’s wonderful natural resources when I was your age by camping and hiking. I still camp every chance I get, but most of my free time is spent running, biking and paddling around the city. Madison summers are special, and I cannot wait to spend mine at the boathouse with all of you this year! See you soon, campers!

Coach Kevin

This will be Kevin's seventh year instructing with Camp Wingra in some capacity. He loves stand up paddle boarding, and races competitively around the country. Kevin helped organize the Madison Boats SUP Club, and coaches the teams with the help of others. When he's not paddling, he can usually be found in a sunny spot with a good book.

Zack

Hey Campers! I’m going to be one of your fishing counselors this summer. I am so excited for camps to start and to meet all of you.  This fall I will be studying  Environmental Studies at Minnesota State University in Mankato. I love spending time outdoors and fishing is one of my favorite activities. I have been fishing for as long as I can remember and I used to be a camper at Camp Wingra myself! Although I am too old to be a camper, I can’t wait to be your counselor this summer, have lots of fun, and catch lots of fish!

Priya

Hi everyone!  I just finished my freshman year studying Environmental Engineering at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities! I am so excited to come back to Camp after having an awesome Summer with you all last year! I love to spend my time on the water whether it's paddling around, fishing or swimming! If I'm not working at Camps, I love going hiking, biking, camping and my personal favorite, hammocking! Summer is the best time of year and I am super excited to spend mine having a blast with all of you!

Kyle

Hey Campers! I am so excited for my first full summer as a Wingra counselor. You may recognize me from last summer when I helped out with a few Fish, Paddle and Play camps, or from my two summers working as Wingra Boats Crew.  In the fall I will be attending college to study Environmental Sustainability and Business. Some of my favorite things to do in the summer are paddle boarding, hiking, mountain biking, and just exploring the great lakes we have here in Madison! I am beyond excited to share those experiences with all of you this summer!

Sam

Hello everyone! My name is Sam and this will be my first summer as a fishing counselor at Camp Wingra. I will be a senior at UW Madison this fall studying English creative writing and possibly pursuing a teaching certificate. I am an avid sportsman with a deep fishing background across Wisconsin waters and have had the chance to travel to Canada for some walleye fishing trips. I shoot archery, both tournament and casual, and I enjoy hunting as well. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with our campers, hoping to land some big fish and ensure everyone is having a great time!

Lizzy

Hey everybody! I can’t wait for camp to start!  I just finished up my first year at the UW Madison studying International Business and Marketing. After this crazy cold winter I am definitely looking forward to being outside in the warm sunshine all the time! I love everything outdoors, however ,the lake will always have a special place in my heart! I’ve been working at Wingra Boats for the past four years as a crew member, and helped out the past summer with camps-which I absolutely loved. My favorite thing to do on the lake is paddle board, but I also love sit-on-top kayaks. I am so excited to meet each and every one of you and get to know how unique and awesome you all are!

Liam

Hello campers!   I plan to  study outdoor recreation at Northern Michigan University this fall!  I love everything about being outdoors, especially kayaking, frisbee, hiking and skiing.  I attended Conserve School, a semester program focused on environmental studies and stewardship my junior year of high school.   I am super excited to share some amazing outdoor adventures with you all this summer!

Annika

I just ended my freshman year at UW La Crosse! Currently, I’m in the pre-law program majoring in writing, and minoring in environmental studies. When I’m not in class, you can often find me reading, drawing, hiking the bluffs or walking along the marsh or river trails. Hiking, hammocking, and swimming in the summer, or skiing and ice-skating in the winter, are some of my favorite activities! I love the outdoors and I love water, which is why I am so excited to be working with you all this summer!

Elizabeth

Hi campers.  I am going to be a junior at UW Madison studying Elementary and Special Education. This will be my first summer working at camp Wingra, and I can’t wait to explore the lake with all of you! I just returned from Disney World where I spent a semester working which was a blast!  When I’m not in school, I’m usually spending time outside practicing for marching band, running, paddle boarding, or laying in my hammock. I’m excited to meet all of you and to have a super fun summer on the lake with you!
