2022 Camp Wingra Bios
I am thrilled that I will be spending my 2nd summer with all of you at Camp Wingra! I just graduated from UW-Madison with a bachelor's degree in psychology and social welfare, and a certificate in 3D studio art. I took a ceramics class in my final semester, and I made lots of fun dishes, including a funky teapot! This past year, through my campus job at Adventure Learning Programs, I spent many hours at a high ropes course where I climbed, belayed and ziplined. In my time off of work and school, I love to go to the gym, bike, and play piano. My year has been busy and fun, but I could not be more excited to get back on the lakes of Madison and spend my summer 2022 with the best campers ever at Camp Wingra. See you soon!
I am currently studying at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and majoring in Physical, Adapted, and School Health Education. I love being active and playing volleyball with friends, hiking, fishing, and painting. I am super excited to return at Camp Wingra for my second year of counseling! I love being outside on the water and fishing especially! I can’t wait to see some familiar faces and meet so many new campers!

However, when I’m here in Wisconsin, my favorite activities are kayaking, stargazing, anything crafty, fishing, and my favorite, dog mushing! Perhaps more than anything else, I’m extremely passionate about the conservation and understanding of our natural world, and I hope to share this with all of you! I’ll see you all soon! I can’t wait for another WILD summer!

I am a student at the University of Oregon for sociology and environmental studies. Hello Campers! My name is Alex Mendenhall, and I am a Junior at UW-Madison studying Neurobiology and a leadership certificate. I was a counselor in 2019 so, this will be my second summer as a camp counselor at Camp Wingra, and this summer will be awesome!! I absolutely love paddleboarding, kayaking, camping, and hiking. Most importantly, I love science and guiding campers through fun activities! One of my favorite memories of camp is the huge slip ‘N slide that we made in camp one year, so fun! Spending our days on the lake will be a blast and I can’t wait to see you all there :)
I grew up on Lake Wingra, jumping off paddle boats and learning to paddle board. I got my first job at Wingra Boats at 14 and then later helped create the first year of Camp Wingra before leaving to join the Peace Corps. In 2015, I moved back to Madison after coordinating REI's Outdoor Programs on the East Coast, because Wingra Boats has always been home. I have two little boys, Justice and Caspian, and during the year we spend most of our days outside exploring and getting dirty.
I am a retired elementary school teacher, and coordinated Camp Wingra for over 7 years. Although I am not in the same role as I have been before, I will still be around the boat houses paddling, planting flowers, as well as working with Summer and the counselors.
